When we started the Lady Problems Hackathon Series, there was one thing we knew for sure: building a coalition of partners and advisors who could guide and help us in our mission to support women in tech and entrepreneurs across the globe would be essential.
This blog is the second in a series of posts that will highlight the amazing advisors from across the globe supporting us, join us in basking in the glow of their awesomeness.
Head of Diversity & Impact, BlueChilli
Here are the top 3 reasons why we love Nicola:
1. She has just launched something totally amazing: she is the Director of SheStarts a female-focused accelerator that will find, fund and launch 10 new female-led tech startups, and capture their journeys in a documentary web-series to inspire more women and girls to get started. Our CEO, Sabeen Ali - is on the Advisory Board! The official launch of the program took place in Australia this week, with applications now open. $1 million in pre-seed early stage funding is on the table, along with a world-class accelerator program and the support of incredible mentors, corporate partners and advisors, so you can bet this is going to be amazing.
2. She is a do-gooder, on so many levels: Nicola is a social good operator, having spent the past six years championing social policy reform and raising community awareness for major not for profits including the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) and Mission Australia. She continues her work in the social purpose space in her role as non-executive director of The Parenthood, a not for profit movement of Australian parents, carers and allies working to gain positive policy changes through government advocacy, digital campaigning and corporate engagement. In her role at BlueChilli she is developing opportunities to drive greater social impact within the startup community, and supporting NFP efforts to engage in social innovation.
3. She has some awesome journalistic street cred: Not only is she doing amazing things for female entrepreneurs and working with amazing nonprofits, she also is a media maven and political junkie. Nicola as worked in journalism and broadcast roles at the Seven Network in Brisbane and Nine Network’s Federal Parliamentary Bureau, and was a senior media advisor in the Queensland Government! Perhaps that why she’s had such success with her work with startups and nonprofits - she knows how to make the media listen!
