Anatomy of an AngelHack Hacker [INFOGRAPHIC]

If you’ve been to an AngelHack event, you know it’s the best hackathon experience out there. Just ask our almost 7,000 developers who came to one of 30 cities this year to take a shot at their dreams. But have you ever wondered who these people are?

AngelHack’s global community is a veritable melting pot of developers, designers and entrepreneurs from all sorts of backgrounds. We were curious about who makes up our community, and what makes them so special, so we crunched the numbers behind this year’s hackathon series. Now, we’re sharing our findings with you with this neat new infographic - because these numbers, more than anything, tell us your story.

Some of the things we've found:

  • No surprises here - most of our community consists of developers. But let’s not forget the designers and entrepreneurs who also show up. If you’ve been to a hackathon before, you know how critical it is to have a good designer and business-savvy manager to take your team to the next level. So thank you, design and bizness folks!
  • Our developers bring a plethora of coding knowledge to the table. While web developers (those coding in HTML/CSS and Javascript) came out strong, we’ve got plenty of C, Java and Python devs hacking away. We’ve even got some mobile devs in the house!
  • It may not exactly surprise you to learn that hackers are a younger bunch. But 4% of our developers are over the age of 40, and we’ve even got a few under 15. These intrepid younguns and old-timers are demonstrating - just by showing up - that you’re never too old or too young to compete in a hackathon.
  • Wow, you folks are hackathon junkies. Most of you attend up to five hackathons per year, but there are a few truly dedicated, maybe even crazy (like us!) individuals who attend over 20 hackathons per year. Wow!

So, there you have it - this is the story of our community. And since you are our community, this is the story of you. Thank you so much for helping make our community, and our events, so awesome. We can’t wait to see you at our 2015 series! In the meantime, be sure to follow us on this blog, our newsletter, and on social media to keep up with the latest AngelHack news.

And don’t miss out on Global Demo Day, where the best and brightest in our community will pitch their hackathon-winning ideas to Silicon Valley investors and media. Sign up today!
